Brett Kavanaugh Nominated For SCOTUS

Andrew Zarowny, 7/10/2018

Brett Kavanaugh was nominated last night by President Donald J. Trump to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy announced two weeks ago that he was retiring his seat on the SCOTUS, Supreme Court of the Unites States. Kavanaugh, 53, is currently a Circuit Judge on the bench of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, a seat he was appointed to by George W. Bush in 2003. He had served under Bush′43 as his White House Staff Secretary. A Yale Law School graduate, he was once hired by Obama-appointed Elaina Kagan as a law professor when she headed the Harvard Law School. Kavanaugh is considered to be Conservative and an Originalist concerning the U.S. Constitution.

Protests by the Democratic Party and pro-abortion groups began even before Kavanaugh was nominated. Things got so ugly on the steps of the Supreme Court last night that Fox News host Shannon Bream had to cancel her planned live broadcast. Police were called in to deal with some demonstrators. On the subject of abortion, he is on the record as supporting the ruling of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, upholding the ″right″ to an abortion. So this topic may go nowhere once Senate confirmation hearings begin.

Of his some 300 judicial decisions, Kavanaugh is generally Conservative, including on issues like EPA regulations and the Second Amendment. Of the finalists being considered for President Trump′s nomination to the Supreme Court, Kavanaugh appears to be the best choice to succeed in the highly divided Senate vote. He should receive the votes of all Republican Senators, and perhaps a couple from Democrat Senators campaigning in states won by President Trump. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is promising a quick floor vote.
